The Maritime Foundation’s annual search for the UK’s best journalists, authors, filmmakers, digital creators and others who in the past year have excelled in creating greater public understanding of the maritime environment has begun.
The Maritime Media Awards shine a light on the innovators and those who make a difference in generating awareness of current and future maritime issues, and the role maritime plays in the prosperity, security and sustainability of our nation.
Over 90 entries were received in 2025 and last year’s winners included former Royal Navy Commander and Telegraph columnist Tom Sharpe OBE, Navy Lookout’s Pete Sandeman for Journalism, Professor Helen Sampson for her dedication to the life and work of generations of merchant seafarers, LNG Chief Officer Joe Furness and his use of social media to cover an amazing range of aspects and topics from working on board ship, to life at sea, and the Royal Navy’s HMS Iron Duke which played a central role in shadowing Russian warships transiting through UK waters.
The qualifying period for the Maritime Media Awards 2026 is from 01 July 2025 to 30 June 2026, and the closing date for entries is 15 July 2026.
