Members of the Awards Committee had the opportunity to congratulate Maritime Media Award winner Ross Kemp in person at the Foundation’s “Strategy for a Maritime Nation” briefing which was held at the Naval Club in March.
The broadcaster was unable to attend last October’s annual Media Awards dinner at which his series “In Search of Pirates” triumphed in the broadcast category because of filming commitments.
On being presented with the Donald Gosling Film Award, a pair of Crystal Dolphins by Desmond Wettern’s widow Gillian, Ross said he had been made most welcome whilst filming the series on board HMS Northumberland and how very impressed he had been by the contribution the Royal Navy was making in the fight against piracy.
Over 40 prominent members of the maritime community attended the briefing, at which Director Naval Staff Commodore Bob Tarrant RN, Commander Sue Eagles RNR, Captain Richard Woodman, Elder Brother of Trinity House and Lord Selsdon all spoke.
