Maritime Media Awards Terms and conditions

1. The Awards

  1. The Maritime Media Awards (the Awards) recognises the UK’s best journalists, authors, filmmakers, digital creators and others whose work in the media has created a greater public understanding of maritime issues, and of the United Kingdom’s dependence upon the sea.
  2. The Maritime Foundation (the Foundation) a registered charity in England and Wales (286784) is the promoter of the Awards.

2. How to enter

  1. The qualifying period for the Maritime Media Awards 2025 is from 01 January 2024 to 30 June 2025.
  2. The closing date for entries is 15 July 2025. Entries received after the closing date will be disqualified.
  3. To enter a nomination the applicant must complete the Nomination Form online.

3. Eligibility

  1. To enter a nomination, the applicant must be aged 18 years or over.
  2. To enter a nomination in the Best Writer category, the nominee must be an individual with eligible work during the qualifying period included in books, newspapers, periodicals, or academic, specialist or technical journals (either in print or digitally)
  3. To enter a nomination in the Best Book category, the nominee must be an author with eligible work published in English during the qualifying period with a focus on the maritime dimension including academic or popular non-fiction on technical, scientific, environmental, economic, industrial, legal, administrative, social or defence-related themes, as well as works of biography, history, fiction and poetry.
  4. To enter a nomination in the Best Audio-Visual category, the nominee must be a director, producer, or other person responsible for making a film or television programme with a focus on the maritime dimension, released or broadcast in the United Kingdom during the qualifying period.
  5. To enter a nomination in the Most Influential Use of Social and Immersive Media category, the nominee must be an individual or institution who uses social media, video gaming or immersive media (Visual Reality and Mixed Reality) to focus on the maritime dimension.
  6. The Foundation may refuse entry, or refuse to award a prize or certificate, to anyone who is in breach of these terms and conditions; or acting in any way that goes against the spirit or intention of the Awards.

4. Nominations

  1. The Foundation has absolute discretion to refuse any nomination that does not in its opinion meet the eligibility criteria and reserves the right to reassign nominations to a category it believes is most suited to the information provided in the nomination.

5. Judging

  1. The Awards are judged by a panel of industry-leading experts in the maritime dimension.
  2. The decision of the judges is final, and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.

6. The prizes

  1. The prizes are:
    Winners: Engraved Trophy in a presentation box and certificate.
    Runners Up: Certificate.
  2. The prizes are subject to availability. The Foundation may substitute the prizes for a similar prize, and are not negotiable or transferable.

7. Announcements

  1. The Foundation will announce a shortlist of entries before the Awards Ceremony.
  2. The Foundation will make reasonable efforts to contact shortlisted nominees by email using the details provided at entry. If a shortlisted nominee does not respond to the Foundation, then the Foundation reserves the right to select another nominee in accordance with the process described in these terms.
  3. Winners will be announced at an Awards Ceremony on 20 November 2025 at Six Park Place in London.
  4. The Foundation will publish a list of winners and runners up and information that indicates the Awards took place.

8. Rights

  1. The Foundation reserves the right to make any part of your entry including names, titles, publishing details, book covers, screengrabs, and promotional media available on the Foundation website, and any other media and publicity in connection with the Awards.
  2. The Foundation may take photographs of winners and attendees to the Awards Ceremony for publicity and online, broadcast or print use.

9. Privacy

  1. The Maritime Foundation, a registered charity in England and Wales (286784) is the promoter of the Maritime Media Awards.
  2. The personal data you supply as part of your submission will be used by the Foundation for the purpose of running the Awards. This includes:
    2.1. contacting you if you have submitted a nomination, or are selected for entry.
    2.2. requesting further information in connection to your entry.
    2.3. publishing the nominee’s name and the title of the entry, along with the names of the publisher or production company connected to your entry on the Foundation website and associated social media channels.
    2.4. filming and taking photographs of finalists in connection with any publicity of the Awards.
  3. Where you have consented, the Foundation would like to contact you about its work and the Awards via email.

10. Liability

  1. The Foundation will not be responsible or liable to compensate the nominees or winners, or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death as a result of either entering the Awards or winners accepting a prize, except where it is caused by the negligence of the Foundation, or its agents.

11. General

  1. The Foundation may suspend, cancel or amend the Awards where it becomes necessary to do so.
  2. These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
