MMA Awards 2014

The purpose of the Maritime Media Awards is to inspire and honour writers, film-makers and communicators whose work enhances public understanding of Britain’s dependence upon the sea.

And we’re delighted to announce that we’ve received more nominations this year than in any of the previous nineteen years our awards programme has been running!

A total 89 entries have been received in four categories:

A completely new category for this year’s awards portfolio is the First Sea Lord’s Digital Media Award. Introduced to reflect changes in the way in which we communicate via social media and the internet, this exciting award has attracted seven high quality nominations.

The Donald Gosling Award has attracted a record breaking 25 high quality entrants which is going to present a difficult task for the judging panel, led by Rob White, who added:
“As you’d expect the BBC are strongly represented in a hard-fought shortlist, but they don’t have it all their own way, with excellent contenders submitted by broadcasters ranging from Channel 4 to Five and Quest. Watch out too for our first musical contender – from Sting, no less, with his first new work in 10 years, drawing on his family’s shipbuilding background in Newcastle-on-Tyne”

The winners will be announced and prizes presented at our prestigious dinner held at the Institute of Directors, London, on 5 November 2014.
